Hi ! My name is Adrien Fonteneau, I am born in 2000 and I am from France !
I started my musical journey with the piano at the age of six and began learning the viola at 11 at the Conservatory of La Roche-sur-Yon. After earning certificates in both piano and viola, I continued my studies at the CRR of Tours, where I obtained a Diploma of Musical Studies in Viola under the guidance of Gilles Deliège. In 2020, I joined the Royal Conservatory of Brussels to study viola with Vladimir Bukač. Between 2021 and 2023, I also studied with Benjamin Beck, principal violist of the Vienna Philharmonic.
In 2022, I completed my Bachelor’s degree and was accepted into the academies of the Belgian National Orchestra, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, and the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia. These experiences allowed me to perform in productions conducted by renowned maestros such as Alain Altinoglu, Kazuki Yamada, and Vahan Mardirossian.
Since 2024, I’ve been a permanent member of the Young Belgian Strings. That same year, I completed my Master’s degree in Viola at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
I am also a member of the Aeterna Quartet, with whom I won the “Prix Espoir” at the Génération Classique competition in December 2024. We are also finalists in the Supernova competition, which will take place in February 2025. Chamber music holds a special place in my heart, and I especially love playing in string quartets, which allow for a rich and intimate musical dialogue.
After finishing my Master’s, I felt a strong desire to continue learning and growing as a musician. That’s why I decided to join the IVA. I am at a pivotal point in my career, transitioning from student life to the professional world. The IVA offers the perfect balance of guidance from experienced professors and opportunities to step into the professional world.
